Functions of several variables are an extension of the concept of functions you already know from school. There are no limitations when it comes to their analysis — you can calculate limits, derivatives, integrals, and whatever else you need.

They are used whenever the outcome of a process depends not on just one factor, but for example on two or three. As you can probably guess, such situations are far from rare.

Working with functions of several variables is, of course, much more difficult than simply “drawing a table”.
